After Raphael Mother and Child
One of several bold-colored pixel pieces by the artist, this interpretation is her reimagination of the Virgin Mary holding the Christ Child as painted by the classic artist Raphael. Of several Raphael Madonnas, this one most closely intimates The Small Cowper Madonna created in 1505, though Lovely translates loosely in her “painted digital squares.” Lovely also points out a deeper layer of symbolism in that each square alone is just a color, but together they create a purpose. Much like God is to man. Without God we have no purpose.
