Albert Shucking Peas
A true to life character, the artist refers to the titular Albert as “a genuine product of Nantucket.” Following Lovely’s well-rehearsed theme of voyeurism in her paintings, Lovely captures the essence of Nantucketers here in a hardworking island resident who, though retired, still prefers to wear his uniform. Celebrating this spirit, Albert is featured here as-is, not changed out of work clothes but featured in them, from the comfortable, conversational expression to the touch-of-red in the shadows of his hat.
