Albert’s Garden
A Nantucket staple, the titular “Albert” is the same as was captured in Lovely’s portrait piece, “Albert Shucking Peas.” Here we catch a landscape of his garden with several personal touches. The “whirly gig” (the blue and white figure in the foreground) is not only handmade by the Albert in mention, but is symbolic of those crafted by his father, also a well-known Nantucket character. The playful artisan craft in Nantucket whites and blues, sits perched atop the solar outdoor shower, flanked by the garden gate, and ensconced by greens and blossoms that grow from curated seeds Albert orders annually from a catalog. Painted in plein air.
