Boston Marathon Angels
Part of the Lovely’s “painting from life” methodology, this piece was created in homage to the Boston Marathon bombing and the response of the community and first responders. The artist describes seeing the images that came out of the events of that day and being reminded of the American Revolution and artistic creations such as Paul Revere’s engraving, “The Bloody Massacre.” With special attention to the “bloom” of explosion, discovering how to create florescence out of paint, and celebration to the cityscape of Boston, specifically to the event location at Boylston Street near Copley Square, the artist describes most notably the images of some of the victims of the tragedy honored at the top of the frame. (She also mentions the proximity to this location of the famed Copley Society of Art.) Described as “an emotional painting process,” Lovely calls this piece her “prayer for Boston.”
