Yawkey Way
One of Lovely’s many “painting from life” pieces, Yawkey Way was created for the Copley Society of Art’s Fresh Paint event. Co|So, as it’s familiarly called, is internationally known, but geographically, is a venerated institution in the heart of Boston, Massachusetts. Similarly, Lovely is a known art influence within the culture of the city (“the Grand Dame of Boston painters”) and personally passionate about the area and its icons. Perhaps the pinnacle of which is Fenway Park and it’s enigmatic “onramp,” Yawkey Way. What Lovely describes speaking of painting this piece, is almost as bold as the art itself, expressing her enthusiasm like the bold strokes and electric palette viewers enjoy in this piece, pairing cobalt blues with nearly neon reds and oranges. “It was such an experience to paint,” Lovely says, “as I saw people walking and felt the energy. There’s nothing like being among the crowd just outside of Fenway.”
